If you are a graphic designer involved with design for print you will be familiar with PMS – the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM®. Colour is so important and especially colour consistency when delivering multiple items of printed collateral for corporates and brands. Originating in 1963 the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® set out to solve the problem of complicated colour matching in the printing industry, it enables colour to be selected using a numbering system which is now synonymous with the colour swatches (chips) that have long been associated with the PANTONE brand. Every colour, in every tone and tint has a different number to classify and communicate it effectively.

The PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® is now recognized across many industries the world over - textiles, fashion wear, beauty, interiors, architectural and industrial design. It spans many colour standards and multiple materials including printing inks, textiles, plastics, pigments, and coatings. Pantone Standards are available both digitally and physically in order to deliver colour consistency as technology continues to transform the design process.

In 2000, Pantone created the ‘Pantone Colour of the Year’ to set the tone and to influence creative people working in branding and marketing. Every year the Pantone Colour Institute™ gathers to consider and choose its colour of the year. As part of selection process colour experts search the world for new trends and patterns, seeking out those creatives who are making their mark in all areas of design endeavour. Influences also arise out of new technology, materials, emerging fashion and art. In fact, anything that captures worldwide attention.

This year the Pantone Colour of the Year 2019 is PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral – “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” 1

In response OnlyRoses has created a spectacular collection comprising both our Classic Roses and long-lasting Infinite Roses® in beautiful ‘coral’ hues. If you are inspired by the Pantone Colour of the Year, and are looking for an inspiring gift or display, look no further.
